The city of Bishop, the largest population hub of Inyo County, is located about 45 miles south of Mammoth Lakes at an elevation of 4,150 (an elevation drop of nearly 4,000 ft from Mammoth!) When Mammoth is cold and stormy, Bishop can by warm and balmy. Bishop is famous for its world class climbing, hiking and adventuring as well at its rich Native American history. Some of the tallest peaks in the country, many at over 14,000 ft, tower over the Bishop valley, and lend for a beautiful, awe-inspiring backdrop. In recent years, many younger folks and young families have relocated to this quaint little western town for a more outdoor-centric lifestyle.
